Program Summary

The Code establishes that all commercial construction and reconstruction projects are subject to a mandatory public art requirement. Projects subject to the requirement may satisfy it by inclusion of an onsite installation of a work of public art with a value of one percent (1%) of the building valuation, but not more than one hundred and fifty thousand dollars ($150,000.00). Prior to installation and prior to the issuance of any certificate of occupancy, the artwork must be approved by the city council.

Alternatively, where the installation of art is impractical or inaccessible, developers may satisfy the requirement by contributing one percent (1%), but not more than one hundred and fifty thousand dollars ($150,000.00), of the building valuation to the Art in Public Places Fund.
