Program Summary

The Policy establishes a voluntary public art in private development program. Development projects recommended for the program are:

  • Multi-family residential projects with more than twenty-five (25) units;
  • Single-family detached developments of twenty-five (25) or more units;
  • Commercial, industrial, institutional, and public building projects with building budget exceeding two hundred thousand dollars ($200,000.00); and
  • Any remodeling project of an existing building with a budget in excess of two hundred thousand dollars ($200,000.00), which improves or enlarges spaces in the building regularly frequented by the general public, or which is located in a highly visible public area.

Developers are encouraged to contribute to the public art program by acquiring and installing public artworks or art treatments with a value of one percent (1%) of the building budget as part of the project. The City will assist developers in the public art process at the time a permit application is made. Alternatively, developers may contribute funds to a City Art in Public Places Fund to be used for public art projects within the city.
