Program Summary

The Code establishes that all new construction or renovation of commercial, industrial, mixed-use, or residential developments with an aggregate job value that exceeds one million dollars ($1,000,000.00) are subject to a mandatory public art requirement. Single family residential lots and new residential developments for affordable housing are excluded from the requirement. Projects may satisfy the requirement by placing a permanent public artwork from a professional artist on-site. The budget must be not less than one percent (1%) of the aggregate job value but no more than one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000.00). Maintenance and conservation of the artwork is the responsibility of the property owners. Alternatively, developments may contribute three quarters of a percent (0.75%) of the aggregate job value to the city’s public art fund.
